Implant Crowns in Brooklyn, NY

A single crown attached to a dental implant to replace one missing tooth.

What Is an Implant Crown?

An implant crown is a fixed, permanent restoration used to replace a single missing tooth. Unlike a traditional dental crown, which is placed over an existing natural tooth, an implant crown is supported by a dental implant, a small titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone and functions as an artificial root. Once the implant has integrated with the bone, a custom crown is attached to it, creating a replacement tooth that looks, feels, and functions like the original.

Who an Implant Crown Is For

An implant crown replaces a single tooth from root to biting surface without involving the teeth beside it. It suits most healthy adults with enough bone, or who can have bone rebuilt with grafting.

  • One missing tooth, or a tooth that cannot be saved
  • Healthy neighboring teeth you do not want prepared for a bridge
  • Good general health and healthy gums
  • Enough jawbone, or willingness to have grafting
  • A commitment to daily cleaning and regular maintenance visits

Implant Crowns at Bensonhurst Dental Care

At Bensonhurst Dental Care, implant crowns are provided by Dr. Geoffrey Rubinshtein, a board-certified periodontist with advanced training from NYU’s Post Graduate Program in Periodontics. Dr. Geoffrey’s expertise in bone and soft tissue management ensures that every implant is placed with precision, creating the ideal foundation for a crown that will be stable and long lasting. His approach is thorough and patient centered, beginning with a detailed evaluation of bone density, gum health, and the overall treatment plan before any surgery takes place.

What to Expect, Step by Step

The implant crown process unfolds in stages. After the implant is placed and allowed to heal and integrate with the jawbone, a process that typically takes several months, an abutment is attached to the implant. The final crown is then fabricated to match the surrounding teeth in shade, shape, and contour, and it is secured to the abutment. The result is a standalone restoration that does not rely on neighboring teeth for support and preserves the integrity of the surrounding dental arch.

  1. Consultation and imaging. 3D imaging measures the bone and locates nerves and sinuses.
  2. Implant placement. The implant is placed in the jaw under local anesthesia.
  3. Healing. The bone bonds to the implant over three to six months.
  4. Abutment. A connector is attached to the implant.
  5. Impression or scan. Records are taken for the laboratory.
  6. Crown placement. The crown is attached and the bite is adjusted.

An implant crown is only as good as the planning beneath it. Where the implant sits in the bone decides how natural the final tooth looks.

  • You notice a bad taste near the implant

Why Choose an Implant Crown

Implant crowns are widely regarded as the gold standard for single-tooth replacement. They prevent the bone loss that occurs when a tooth is missing, maintain proper spacing and alignment, and eliminate the need to prepare adjacent teeth as a traditional bridge would require. For patients missing multiple teeth, implant bridges and implant full arch restorations extend the same implant-supported approach to larger areas of the mouth.

The Crown Stage in Detail

An implant crown is the visible, functional portion of a dental implant restoration. After the implant post has been placed in the jawbone and fully integrated, a custom crown is fabricated and attached to the implant via an abutment. The crown is designed to match the shape, shade, and contour of the surrounding natural teeth, providing a result that is both aesthetically seamless and fully functional for biting and chewing.

At Bensonhurst Dental Care, implant crowns are provided as part of the comprehensive implant treatment overseen by Dr. Geoffrey Rubinshtein. Dr. Geoffrey ensures that the implant is positioned at the ideal angle and depth during placement so that the final crown sits naturally within the arch. Precise impressions are taken and sent to the dental laboratory, where the crown is crafted from high-quality ceramic or zirconia materials chosen for their durability and lifelike appearance.

How Implant Crowns Differ from Traditional Crowns

Implant crowns function differently from traditional dental crowns, which are placed over a natural tooth. Because an implant crown is supported by a titanium post rather than a living tooth, it does not carry a risk of decay. However, maintaining healthy gum tissue around the implant is essential for long-term success, which is why regular preventive care and implant maintenance visits are an important part of the ongoing care plan.

What affects the cost

  • The size and position of the tooth being restored
  • The material chosen, such as composite, ceramic or zirconia
  • Supporting procedures such as a core buildup, post or root canal

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does an implant crown last?

The implant itself can last a lifetime with proper care. The crown attached to it typically lasts 15 years or longer, depending on the material used, the patient’s oral hygiene, and habits such as grinding. Regular dental visits help monitor both the implant and the crown over time.

Am I a candidate for an implant crown?

Most patients with good general health and adequate jawbone density are candidates. Conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smoking, or significant bone loss may affect candidacy. Dr. Geoffrey evaluates each patient thoroughly and discusses any necessary preparatory steps, such as bone grafting, if needed.

Is the implant placement surgery painful?

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is generally well tolerated. Most patients report that the discomfort is less than expected and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief. Dr. Geoffrey takes every measure to ensure a comfortable experience.

How long does the entire process take?

From implant placement to final crown delivery, the process typically takes three to six months, with most of that time devoted to healing and bone integration. The surgical and restorative appointments themselves are relatively brief.

How do I care for an implant crown?

An implant crown is cared for just like a natural tooth. Brushing, flossing, and regular professional cleanings keep the surrounding gum tissue healthy and the restoration in optimal condition. There are no special products or routines required.

What material is used for implant crowns?

Implant crowns are most commonly made from all-ceramic or zirconia materials, which provide excellent aesthetics and durability. The choice of material depends on the location of the implant and the functional demands placed on it. Dr. Geoffrey recommends the best option based on each patient’s specific situation.

How long does it take to get an implant crown after the implant is placed?

After implant placement, a healing period of three to six months is typically needed for the implant to fully integrate with the bone. Once integration is confirmed, the crown fabrication and placement process usually takes two to three additional weeks.

Can an implant crown break?

While implant crowns are made from highly durable materials, they can chip or fracture under extreme force, such as from grinding or biting on very hard objects. If damage occurs, the crown can be replaced without disturbing the implant itself.

Will an implant crown look like my natural teeth?

Yes. Implant crowns are custom designed and shade-matched to blend with the patient’s existing teeth. When crafted and placed by an experienced team, they are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.

What Our Patients Say

Dr. Marina and Dr. Alex first became our family dentists 35 years ago. Dr. Marina had to restore all my teeth, replacing metal crowns and lead filings back then. This time it was implants and zirconium crowns. And she did an absolutely amazing job again! Her attention to details, superb professional skills and strive to perfection makes her the best doctor I've ever seen. Each person in the staff was very professional, courteous and friendly, from the office coordinator Kevin, to receptionist Julia, dental assistants Julia and Anya. Because the round trip to the office for me now was six hours, they accommodated my schedule to cut the number of visits to the minimum. The best dental office you can find, thank you so much!

Dr. Marina and Dr. Alex are excellent dentists. The atmosphere of their office is very comfortable. The office staff is efficient and friendly. I had several dental procedures (implants, braces, crowns) done, and the results were excellent. I highly recommend Bensonhurst Dental Care to everybody.

Dr.Rubinstein office is such a great experience! The team is amazing very good vibes! Would definitely recommend this to all! Thanks so much

Hello everyone, I would like to highlight the brilliant work of Dr. Geoffrey, who performed the installation of two implants on my lower jaw for me. I lost 2 teeth a long time ago and unfortunately at that time no one informed me that it is necessary to install dental implants as soon as possible, before the bone tissue began to decrease. Now I know all this and much more about teeth and caring for them, thanks to the Bensonhurst Dental team. My greatest fear was that I had lost too much bone tissue. The Bensonhurst Dental team took care of me. Dr. Geoffrey, a periodontist, examined the bone tissue and assured me that we would be able to build up bone tissue and install dental implants. Dr. Marina, a specialist in cosmetic dentistry, and Dr. Nick, an orthodontist, recommended starting with orthodontic treatment, because due to the absence of several chewing teeth, the remaining teeth began to move and tilted so that there was not enough space for installing implants and crowns. Time flies and I will soon finish my orthodontic treatment, and a few months ago we were able to install dental implants, a couple of weeks ago we installed gum formers and very soon we will start work on installing crowns. But I am not going to stop there, because teeth need to be taken care of constantly, a healthy, beautiful smile makes us attractive and young. I can't wait until we finish the ortho treatment and install the implants crowns. After that, it is necessary to do a good cleaning of the teeth and I think to do whitening! Learn from other people's mistakes and choose good dentists!
