Dental Implant Placement in Brooklyn, NY

The surgery that places a titanium implant in the jaw to replace a tooth root.

What Is Dental Implant Placement?

Implant placement is the surgical procedure in which a titanium implant post is inserted into the jawbone to serve as a permanent replacement for a missing tooth root. The implant integrates with the bone through a process called osseointegration, creating a stable anchor for a crown, bridge, or full arch prosthesis. As a periodontist, Dr. Geoffrey Rubinshtein possesses specialized training in the bone and soft tissue management that implant surgery demands, making him ideally suited to handle both straightforward and complex placement cases.

Who Implant Placement Is For

Placement is the surgical stage of implant treatment. Its success depends on healthy gums, enough bone and careful planning of the implant position.

  • One or more missing teeth
  • A tooth that has to be extracted
  • Healthy gums, or gum disease that has been treated
  • Jaw growth that is complete
  • Controlled medical conditions and, ideally, no smoking

Dental Implant Placement at Bensonhurst Dental Care

At Bensonhurst Dental Care, implant placement begins with comprehensive planning. Dr. Geoffrey uses clinical examination and advanced diagnostic imaging to evaluate bone quality, jaw anatomy, and the proximity of critical structures such as nerves and sinuses. This information guides the precise positioning of the implant for optimal stability, function, and aesthetics. In cases that demand the highest level of precision, guided implant surgery is used to execute the plan with computer-aided accuracy.

What to Expect, Step by Step

  1. Consultation. Your health, gums and bite are assessed.
  2. 3D imaging. A scan measures bone and maps nerves and sinuses.
  3. Planning. The implant size and position are planned, with a surgical guide if needed.
  4. Surgery. The implant is placed under local anesthesia, usually in under an hour per implant.
  5. Healing. Bone bonds to the implant over three to six months.
  6. Handover. The implant is uncovered if necessary and the crown stage begins.

Timing of implant placement

TimingWhen the implant is placedUsed when
ImmediateAt the same visit as the extractionBone is intact and there is no acute infection
Early4 to 8 weeks after extractionGum needs to heal first
Delayed3 to 6 months after extraction or graftingBone must rebuild first

Placing an implant takes less time than most people expect. Planning where it goes takes far longer, and matters more.

When to Call Us

Call the office on (718) 234-3434 if you notice any of the following:

  • Bleeding that will not stop
  • Numbness that persists the next day
  • The implant or healing cap feels loose
  • Increasing pain or swelling

Preparing the Site and Next Steps

When the bone at the planned implant site is insufficient, Dr. Geoffrey performs preparatory procedures such as bone grafting, ridge preservation, or sinus lifts to build the foundation before the implant is placed. In some cases, grafting and implant placement can be performed simultaneously. Following placement, a healing period of three to six months allows the implant to fully integrate before the final restoration is attached.

Whether the case involves a single tooth implant, multiple implants, or a full arch restoration, the surgical placement is the critical first step. Dr. Geoffrey’s periodontal expertise ensures that every implant is placed with the precision and biological understanding required for lasting success.

Cost and Insurance

The fee for periodontal treatment depends on how much of the mouth is affected and on whether surgery or grafting is needed. You receive a written estimate after your gum evaluation.

What affects the cost

  • The number of teeth or areas treated
  • Whether treatment is non-surgical or surgical
  • Graft materials and membranes, where used
  • Sedation, if you choose it

Many dental plans contribute to gum disease treatment and maintenance. Benefits are often set per quarter of the mouth. Our team can check your benefits and explain your options before treatment begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the implant placement procedure take?

A single implant placement typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. Multiple implants may require a longer appointment. The duration depends on the complexity of the case and whether any additional procedures such as grafting are performed at the same time.

Is implant placement painful?

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and patients typically feel pressure but no pain during surgery. Post-operative discomfort is mild for most patients and manageable with over-the-counter or prescribed pain medication.

What is the success rate of dental implants?

Dental implants have a success rate of approximately 95 to 98 percent when placed by an experienced clinician in a properly selected patient. Factors that contribute to success include adequate bone, healthy gum tissue, good oral hygiene, and the absence of uncontrolled systemic conditions.

How soon after an extraction can an implant be placed?

In some cases, an implant can be placed immediately after extraction. In others, a healing period of several months is recommended, particularly if bone grafting or ridge preservation is needed first. Dr. Geoffrey evaluates each case to determine the ideal timing.

Why should a periodontist place my implant?

Periodontists receive years of advanced training specifically in the bone and soft tissue that surround and support the teeth. This expertise is directly applicable to implant surgery, where understanding tissue biology, bone quality, and healing dynamics is essential for optimal placement and long-term success.

What Our Patients Say

I had a great experience at Bensonhurst Dental. I got a teeth implant placed yesterday and was really nervous going into it, but Dr. Marina made me feel so comfortable from start to finish. She was extremely professional and didn’t make me feel rushed at all, she really took her time with me which showed how much she genuinely cares. She kept checking in to make sure I was okay, and while numbing me, she constantly asked about my pain level, which really reassured me. Elisa cleaned my teeth and did an amazing job. She was quick, thorough, and very efficient. I also had the rest of my veneers done here about 8–9 years ago, and I keep coming back because they still look perfect . They truly feel like family in this office , and I can’t imagine going to another dental office. Overall, they were both excellent, and I’m very happy with the outcome. I highly recommend them both !

Hello everyone, I would like to highlight the brilliant work of Dr. Geoffrey, who performed the installation of two implants on my lower jaw for me. I lost 2 teeth a long time ago and unfortunately at that time no one informed me that it is necessary to install dental implants as soon as possible, before the bone tissue began to decrease. Now I know all this and much more about teeth and caring for them, thanks to the Bensonhurst Dental team. My greatest fear was that I had lost too much bone tissue. The Bensonhurst Dental team took care of me. Dr. Geoffrey, a periodontist, examined the bone tissue and assured me that we would be able to build up bone tissue and install dental implants. Dr. Marina, a specialist in cosmetic dentistry, and Dr. Nick, an orthodontist, recommended starting with orthodontic treatment, because due to the absence of several chewing teeth, the remaining teeth began to move and tilted so that there was not enough space for installing implants and crowns. Time flies and I will soon finish my orthodontic treatment, and a few months ago we were able to install dental implants, a couple of weeks ago we installed gum formers and very soon we will start work on installing crowns. But I am not going to stop there, because teeth need to be taken care of constantly, a healthy, beautiful smile makes us attractive and young. I can't wait until we finish the ortho treatment and install the implants crowns. After that, it is necessary to do a good cleaning of the teeth and I think to do whitening! Learn from other people's mistakes and choose good dentists!
