Cosmetic Crown Replacements in Brooklyn, NY

Replacing older, dark-edged or mismatched crowns with natural-looking ceramic ones.

What Is a Cosmetic Crown Replacement?

Dental crowns placed years ago may no longer meet today’s aesthetic standards. Older crowns, particularly those made with metal or porcelain-fused-to-metal materials, can develop dark margins at the gumline, appear opaque or mismatched compared to surrounding teeth, or simply look dated. Cosmetic crown replacement involves removing the existing restoration and replacing it with a new crown crafted from modern, high-quality materials that blend naturally with the rest of the smile.

Signs a Crown May Be Due for a Cosmetic Update

A crown can be clinically sound and still look out of place. Replacement is worth considering when the appearance of an older crown bothers you, or when an exam shows that its fit is no longer protecting the tooth.

  • A dark line shows where the crown meets the gum
  • The crown looks flat, grey or more opaque than the teeth beside it
  • You have whitened your teeth and the crown no longer matches
  • The porcelain has chipped or worn through to metal
  • The gum around the crown is often red or tender

Cosmetic Crown Replacements at Bensonhurst Dental Care

At Bensonhurst Dental Care, cosmetic crown replacements are performed by Dr. Marina Rubinshtein, who approaches each case with the same artistic standard she brings to every cosmetic treatment. The process begins with a comprehensive evaluation of the existing crown, the underlying tooth structure, and the overall smile. Dr. Marina then designs the replacement crown to match the shade, translucency, and contour of the adjacent teeth, ensuring the final result integrates seamlessly rather than standing out.

What to Expect, Step by Step

  1. Evaluation. We examine the crown, take an X-ray and check the tooth underneath.
  2. Shade and shape planning. Photographs and shade records guide the laboratory.
  3. Removal and preparation. The old crown is removed under local anesthesia, any decay is cleaned and the tooth is refined.
  4. Temporary crown. A temporary protects the tooth while the new crown is made.
  5. Placement. The new crown is tried in, adjusted and bonded or cemented.

Materials and Related Treatments

Modern all-ceramic and zirconia crown materials offer a significant improvement over older restorations. They reflect light the way natural enamel does, resist staining, and eliminate the dark metal lines that often become visible as gums recede over time. For patients replacing a single crown, the goal is an invisible match. For those updating multiple restorations, cosmetic crown replacement can be part of a broader plan that may include porcelain veneers or even a full mouth reconstruction to create a cohesive, unified smile.

Patients considering cosmetic crown replacement should also be aware that this service bridges cosmetic and restorative dentistry. While the motivation is often aesthetic, the new crown also restores structural integrity and function. Dr. Marina ensures that every replacement crown not only looks exceptional but performs reliably for years to come.

Cost and Insurance

Cosmetic treatment is planned tooth by tooth, so the fee depends on what you choose to change. You receive a written estimate after your consultation and before any treatment starts.

What affects the cost

  • The number of teeth being treated
  • The material chosen, such as composite or porcelain
  • Any preparatory care needed first, such as a cleaning, whitening or gum contouring
  • Laboratory work for custom restorations

Treatment done for appearance alone is usually not covered by dental insurance. Restorations that also repair damage may be covered in part. Our team can check your benefits and explain your options before treatment begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my crown needs to be replaced?

Common signs include a visible dark line at the gumline, a noticeable color mismatch with surrounding teeth, chipping or wear on the crown surface, or discomfort around the crowned tooth. Even if the crown is still functional, patients who are unhappy with its appearance are good candidates for a cosmetic upgrade.

What materials are used for replacement crowns?

Dr. Marina typically uses all-ceramic or zirconia materials, which offer the most natural appearance and excellent durability. The specific material is chosen based on the tooth’s location, the patient’s bite, and the desired aesthetic outcome.

How long does the replacement process take?

Cosmetic crown replacement generally requires two visits. At the first appointment, the old crown is removed, the tooth is prepared, and impressions are taken for the new crown. A temporary crown is placed in the interim. At the second visit, the final crown is seated, adjusted, and bonded into place.

How long will a new crown last?

A well-made crown from high-quality materials, placed with proper technique, can last 15 years or longer with good oral care. Regular checkups and consistent hygiene habits are the best way to maximize the lifespan of any restoration.

Can I replace just one crown, or do I need to replace all of them?

Individual crowns can absolutely be replaced on their own. Dr. Marina carefully shade-matches each new crown to the surrounding teeth so it blends naturally, whether one crown or several are being updated.

It's been a long 9-month journey, but it has finally came to an end: From redoing a root canal, to putting on braces, doing whitening and placing both a crown and a veneer, I have the satisfaction to refer Bensonhurst Dental Care to anyone who is reading this review. All doctors in this facility are extremely competent and careful to meet the client expectations, no matter how demanding they are. Today I leave this place with a big smile on my face and happy to tell my friends and family about it, because all investment put in was more than worth it!

Initially came in to talk about enhancing my smile . I was interested in the veneers. Dr. Rubinstein was so kind and informative during the entire process. They took my budget into consideration and offered me the best plan to give me the most ideal results within my means . Today I came in for my treatment and I couldn’t be more happier. I feel like I can smile again and have the confidence I knew I was missing .

Bensonhurst Dental has been my go to general dental and cosmetic dental doctors since high school. You're not going to find anything like this place almost anywhere in NY. Not only do that have a high tech lab upstairs to custom-make on-site dental cosmetics, which they work with hand in hand to ensure perfect size color and fitness (don't overlook this!), but the team consists of a family of specialists. From Danny who specializes in full mouth restorations and custom veneers, to his father Alex who is an oral surgeon expert as far as root canals and the latest in laser dentistry with expensive modern high tech on-site equipment, and Marina with the motherly touch who ensures client satisfaction and who has an incredible eye for cosmetic perfection and detail. But beyond these for dentists, who can service the complete full range of dental services and all often work together on one patient, there's also a full staff of dental hygienists, whitening experts, assistants, front desk staff. The place does not cut corners on manpower. And they're fully renovated as of this year, the place is gorgeous and everything is brand new and up to date. I've been very proactive about my oral health since I neglected my teeth during graduate school. They brought me back to full oral health from new crowns to fillings and helped me avoid a near certain root canal. I now come here every 3-4 months for a cleaning, so I don't have to undergo the damage I went through while neglecting to see a dentist for 2 years. I give this place the highest 5 stars I've ever given a service professional, and I cannot emphasize how blessed I've been to have Bensonhurst Dental care, and how much of a vocal fan you will be if you come here for any dental or cosmetic work. To sum it up in 1 sentence: they really care. Thank you to the team for all your hard work. You have one big fan here

I never read long reviews, so for someone like me: BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! But I also have to say special thank you to each member of this extraordinary team. To Yuliya for her inviting smile and welcoming voice; to Ayana for proposing a great deal; to assistant Anya for being there every minute with me, for the inspiration and easing my strongest anxiety; to golden hands of technician Jay - for my beautiful veneers; to the most skillful surgeon doctor Geoffrey - for the painless and natural looking gum-lift; and of course to the best dentists in Brooklyn- dr. Marina, and dr. Alex. I’ve got the most beautiful, natural looking mouth makeover with absolutely no pain or discomfort. Dr. Marina is a perfectionist, she spend a lot of time with me and took a great care to make sure that my teeth look exactly as I dreamed of. Doctor Alex has a great sense of humor and made me laugh through the implant crown installation procedure making it painless and fun. Thank you ALL for my beautiful smile!!!!!

Before we started the hole process I had no hope. I went through several procedures and all ended up being wrong. Basically, I lost my real teeth. I knew that the only way to fix my situation was to put crowns. Guess, what? And that went wrong, too! All I want to say is ( and it wouldn't be enough ) THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART AND SOLE, DR. MARINA!!! Now I can breath freely thinking about my teeth, smile and NO ONE will EVER tell me that I need to fix my teeth! I will definitely recommend you to everyone I know! Your staff is amazing!!!Thanks again!!!
