Lingual Braces in Brooklyn, NY

Braces fitted to the back of the teeth, so nothing shows from the front.

What Are Lingual Braces?

Lingual braces are a fixed orthodontic system in which the brackets and wires are placed on the inner (tongue-facing) surfaces of the teeth rather than the front. This makes them completely invisible from the outside, offering the corrective power of traditional braces with total aesthetic discretion. Lingual braces are the only fixed appliance option that is truly hidden from view during treatment.

Who Lingual Braces Are For

Lingual braces can address the same range of orthodontic issues as metal and ceramic braces, including crowding, spacing, and bite irregularities. They are especially popular among adult professionals, public-facing individuals, and anyone who values aesthetics during the treatment process. For patients who prefer a removable option, Invisalign provides an alternative, though lingual braces offer the advantage of working continuously without relying on patient compliance with wear time.

Lingual braces offer fixed-appliance control with nothing visible. They take some getting used to, because the tongue shares its space with the brackets.

  • Adults who need fixed braces but want nothing visible
  • People who speak or perform in public
  • Cases too complex for aligners
  • Patients who do not want removable trays
  • People who play wind instruments or contact sports and prefer nothing on the front of the teeth

Lingual Braces at Bensonhurst Dental Care

At Bensonhurst Dental Care, lingual braces are offered by Dr. Marina Rubinshtein for patients who require fixed orthodontic correction but do not want any visible evidence of treatment. Because lingual brackets are custom fabricated to fit the unique contours of the inner tooth surfaces, the system requires precise planning and expertise to design and place. Dr. Marina evaluates each patient’s bite, alignment, and treatment goals to determine whether lingual braces are the right fit.

What to Expect, Step by Step

  1. Records. A precise scan or impression is taken.
  2. Custom fabrication. Brackets and wires are made to fit the back of each tooth.
  3. Bonding. The braces are bonded using a transfer tray.
  4. Adjustments. Visits are every six to eight weeks.
  5. Removal and retention. Braces are removed and retainers are fitted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are lingual braces comfortable?

There is an adjustment period during which the tongue adapts to the presence of the brackets on the inner surfaces of the teeth. Most patients adjust within one to two weeks. Temporary changes to speech are common initially but resolve as the tongue adapts.

Can lingual braces treat complex cases?

Yes. Lingual braces provide the same level of control as traditional braces and can address complex alignment and bite issues. However, certain severe cases may be better suited to conventional bracket placement. Dr. Marina evaluates each case individually.

How long does treatment with lingual braces take?

Treatment time is similar to conventional braces, generally 12 to 24 months depending on the complexity of the case. Because lingual brackets are custom made, there may be a short lead time before treatment begins while the appliances are fabricated.

Are lingual braces more expensive than other options?

Lingual braces typically cost more than metal or ceramic braces due to the custom fabrication of each bracket and the specialized placement process. The team at Bensonhurst Dental Care can discuss pricing and help patients evaluate whether the investment aligns with their priorities.

Will lingual braces affect my speech?

Some patients notice a temporary lisp or change in speech during the first week or two as the tongue adjusts. This resolves quickly for the vast majority of patients and does not persist throughout treatment.

What Our Patients Say

These are some of the most amazing people I've ever met hands down. Yes, you pay for what you get but you have to think long term about your future smile. I first started out with having braces, and now I am currently wearing my clear retainers. If you plan on having braces then all I gotta say is get ready, but it will all be worth it at the end. 10/10 Across the board, I would highly recommend anyone coming here!

Doctors and staff members are extremely helpful and very welcoming. They treat their patients nicely and take great care of everyone. I had 6 months cosmetic braces and everyone took care of me like I was part of their family. They are very understanding. Dr. Marina and Alexandar are very professional and very experienced. I would recommend everyone to visit Bensonhurst Dental Care if you would like to receive the best service for your dental health.
